The park was established in the purpose of conservation of natural complexes of mountaineous regions of Tashkent Region, which possess peculiar ecological value. Here the enterprises and the organization in strict conformity with norms and rules of wildlife management and requirements nature protection legislations, development and introductions of scientific methods of wildlife management in conditions of recreation, creation of condition for tourism in the mountain parts of territory Bostanlyk, Parkent and Akhangaran district of Tashkent region the Decision of Ministerial council UzSSR on 30 July of 1990 it was organized Ugam-Chatkal State Nature National Park.

The whole territory of the park is 574,6 thousand ha. The territory of the park is divided into functional zones: agroparks, active recreation, regulated recreation, reserve and the zone of natural landscapes. More than 78 579 ha territory of the park is occupied with arboreal vegetation, 177 300 ha with pastures and haymowing lands, 1 610 ha was cultivated and 329 400 ha was occupied with rocks and slide – rocks. The national park also comprises the part of mountain system of West Tyan-Shan including, Ugam, Maydantal, Pskem, Chatkal and Kuramin ridges.

THE NATIONAL PARK INCLUDES:

  • Brichmulla Forestry   358 805 ha;
  • Akhangaran Forestry 175 385 ha;
  • Chatkal Biospheric Reserve  35 839 ha;
  • Lands of other landusers     98 321 ha.

The area of National Park begins from the height 800 m and reachs more than 4 000 m above sea level.

MAIN TASKS OF NATIONAL PARK:

  • Regime maintenance for conservation of natural resourses.
  • Recreation of degraded natural complexes.
  • Conduct research activities.
  • Conservation of landscapes, etalon and unique territories of vegetation and animal world.
  • Creation of conditions and development of tourism and recreation.
  • Propaganda of ecological knowledge.

In the territory of the park it is growing more than 1 600 species of trees, bushes and grassy plants, including more than 200 species of medical plants and 200 plant species recorded in the Uzbekistan Red Book. There are Tulipa greigii Regel., Tulipa kaufmanii, Allochrusa tadshikistanika Schischik., Allium pskemense B.Fedtsch. and Evonimus koopmanii among these plants.

At the moment it is dwelling more than 232 species of invetebrates, 37 species of mammalian, 15 species of vermigrades, more than 180 species of birds and 9 species of fishes, 2 species of amphibian.
