RESEARCH AREAS

  • Create genetic collection of cotton on qualitative traits, study of heritability and variability of economic important traits;
  • Create collection of world diversity of genetic pool of cotton and its study with the help of cytoembryological, genetic, cariologic and anatomic methods;
  • Development of the genetic and cell biotechnology for obtaining transgenic plants, microorganisms and animals, development of genetic engineering approaches of disease diagnosis;
  • Using the effect of heterosis, experimental mutagenesis, traditional and biotechnological methods in introduction of new cultivars and seed-growing for obtaining new cultivars of cotton;
  • Physiology and biochemistry of plants resistance on diseases and unfavorable factors of environment, trial local and imported pesticides;
  • Agrobiological research on restoration of the fertility of the soils;
  • Create and develop the collection of phytopathogenic microorganisms, screening of plants on pathogen resistant;
  • Development of the genetic diagnosis for medicine and judicial examination;
  • Microbial purification of the soil from chlororganic xenobiotics;
  • Obtaining recombinant protein on the basis of genetic engineering technology;
  • Obtaining and supporting of hybrid, which produces monoclonal antibodies;
  • Production of diagnostic sets on the basis of monoclonal antibodies;
  • Selection of high productive and resistant cultivars of soft wheat with good baking qualities of flour.

EXPERIMENTAL EQUIPMENT AND METHODS

  • Methods of genetics (hybridization, cytogenetic researches and others), obtaining new cultivars and seed-growing (radiochemical mutagenesis, remote, between species and within the species crossings, polyploidy, selection and others);
  • Molecular biology (culture tissue methods, genetic and cell biology, the analysis of primary structure of DNA, transformation and others);
  • Physiology and biochemistry (methods of chemical analysis, electrophoresis, isolation and defining physical and chemical characteristics of the biological macromolecules and substances of secondary origin, biosynthesis and function);
  • Isotope analysis, defining biologically active pesticides, microbiological methods (isolation, identification storing microorganisms, definition their virulence);
  • Microscopes, centrifuges, chromatographs, spectrophotometers, photoelectrocalorimeters, radio-irradiators, laminar boxes, artificial climate camera’s, lysimeters, green houses, experimental fields);
  • Electrophoretic analysis of gliadyn and gluten.

MADE PRODUCTION AND SERVICES

  • Cultivars of cotton (introduction of the zoned cultivars in large scale);
  • Assistance in maintenance of elite farms of various regions of republic with perspective cultivars;
  • Recommendations on improvement of fertility soil to distribution of cultures and pesticides;
  • Use of genetic engineering in judicial and medical examination (definition of kin relations, identification of the personality).

UNIQUE OBJECTS

Genebank of cotton

Green house complex- 0.42 ha. Storing, study and using genebank world variety of cotton; using the collection for solving the urgent problems of genetics, molecular biology, physiology, and as a source of the target genes in the selection.

Genetic collection of cotton

Genetic collection of isogenic, monosomic and translocation lines of cotton and also artificial amphidiploid species; have been using in the fundamental research on molecular, biochemical and ecological genetics, gene and cell engineering and biotechnology.

Collection phytopatogenic microorganisms

Genetic collection of phytopatogenic and accompanying microorganisms. It consists of 278 cultures of 54 genera. There is an electronic information structure of databases. In 2000 it was appropriated the status national depositary for the collection.

Scientific Experimental Base

The whole territory- 89 ha; it consists of laboratory building, warehouse, workshops and other buildings to carry out fundamental and applied research on genetic selection, obtaining new cultivars of cotton, production and multiplication seed material, development of the new agro technologies.

The Syrdarya Scientific Experimental Base

The total area- 140 ha, arable lands- 114 ha, obtaining new cultivars of cotton, adapted to the unfavorable conditions of environment and their testing; development of agrotechnologies of agricultural production in the water deficiency and salinity conditions.

The Fergana Branch

The whole territory- 162 ha, arable lands- 142 ha; laboratory building, garage, subsidiary premises and others. It has been conducting fundamental researches in field of agro-ecology, enhancing the soil fertility; testing of cultivars, multiplication of seed material and development of the new agro technologies of production of agriculture products in the Fergana Branch.

Experimental base

The whole territory is 22.0 ha, arable lands- 19.1 ha. There has been carrying out fundamental researches on genetics of cotton, cereals and other cultures, and testing some pesticides.

IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENTS

  • It was created the system for sequencing of different inserts of DNA-fragments. It was developed the method, based on the using PCR for identification of activators of wilt and correspondent set for diagnosis. The method of restriction analysis of fragments of ribosomal DNA-clones, obtained with the help of PCR.
  • It was optimised conditions agrobacterial and ballistic transformation and obtaining transformed of propagules in the selected media. It was developed effective methods of regeneration of cotton and wheat. It was obtained transgenic plants of cotton and wheat.
  • It was constructed recombinant plasmid, containing preS1-S gene of HBsAg region and for the first time in Uzbekistan on the baculovira technology was obtained recombinant HBsAg- immunological marker of hepatitis virus. It was completed the development industrial production of diagnosis for hepatitis B on the basis of recombinant HBsAg. It was developed test system on the basis of solid phase ИФА for defining hepatitis B.
  • It was created and replenishing genetic collection of wild and cultural species видов of cotton. It was worked out formation and distinctive features of structures integuments of seedbuds in the different stages of ontogenesis in the representatives of Afro-Asian (Eugossipium) and Australian (Sturtia) species. It was created the possibility of involving some American, Afro-Asian and Australian species of Gossypium L. in the genetic selection researches for obtaining valuable initial hybrid material. It was developed protocols of obtaining intergenomic hybrids and transfer some features of D-genomic species in cultural species.
  • It was made phenotypic and genotypic characteristics of isogenic, monosomic and translocational lines of genetical collection of cotton. It was created unique collection of synthetic amfidyploidal cotton lines, which are donors complex resistant on diseases, enthopests, enhanced salinity of the soil with high level of group productivity and its quality.
  • On the basis of traditional and untraditional methods of selection (внутри и межвидовая hybridization, physical and chemical mutagenesis) with using wild species it was created cotton cultivars (AN-402, AN-Bayaut-2, Yulduz, Tashkent-6, Uzbekistan-3,4, Armugon Агмугон, Gulbakhor, AN-512U, Sharaf-75).
  • It was identified set of molecular markers of agricultural useful traits of cotton. It was created the biotechnology of selection of genotypes on important agricultural useful characteristics from the populations of cotton cultivars, which based on the molecular markering of attributes. It was developed test-system for defining cultivars immunity of cotton on different disease. It was created immunostimulator of cotton on wilt diseases «Bisol».
  • It was developed complex methodology for field evaluation biologically active compounds (BAC) on possible defiling activity, based on the measurement of set of electrophysiological parameters of plant tissue.
  • It was created collection of phytopathogenic microorganisms of basic agricultural crops. The collection consists of 278 crops of 54 genera, which is using to create artificial background for the selection of resistant cultivars of cotton. It was researched virulence of pathogen Pleospora papaveracea on five biotypes of papaver, it was developed biotechnology to уничтожения of papever with the help of biological method.
  • It was created the collection of microorganisms- destructors of polychlorinated biphenyl’s (PCBs). It was developed test system for evaluation of mutagenic effect of the pesticides on structure of marker genes. It was obtained transformed strains of nodule bacteria with cloned tox-genes with insecticidal activity.
  • It was integrated system for agriculture for the irrigated typical gray soils, which is based on the deepening of arable strata, perfection of crop rotations and decreasing norms of mineral fertilizers.

There are 20 research laboratories, departments of administration, scientific-technical information and artificial climate, green house complex, phytotron, sanheat station, garage, workshop, the Fergana Branch, three experimental bases in Institute of Genetics and Plant Experimental Biology.
